1. 1999-P Experimental Delaware State Quarter
In 1999 and 2000, the US Mint made state quarters out of different metals to see which one would work best with the 2000 Sacagawea dollar.
One year that quarters from five states took part in the project was 1999. The states in this group are Delaware, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Georgia.
A very small number of these 1999 trial metal quarters were made by the Mint. This makes them very rare, which makes them very expensive.
The 1999 P Delaware State Quarter is one of the most expensive state quarters in the Sacagawea experimental alloy line. This is because it was made in Philadelphia. At sale, an MS66 copy of this coin brought the most money ever, $4,888.
2. 2003 D Maine State Quarter
The U.S. Mint released the Maine State Quarter on June 2, 2023. The Denver mint made this 23rd state quarter.
Not often do you find a Maine quarter that is still mint. It’s easy to find ones that have been used. For instance, it’s very rare to find examples graded MS67 or higher. You’d be happy to find one.
An MS68 2003 D Maine state quarter was sold at Heritage Auctions in 2017 for $2,300.
3. 2000 P South Carolina State Quarter
In 2000, the eighth State Quarter Program coin came out. It was the P state quarter for South Carolina.
Finding this quarter is tough, and it’s worth the most when it’s still brand new. For a long time, you would have to dig through mint sets, original coin bags, and new bankrolls to find the few coins that are given the MS68 or better grade.
The Professional Coin Grading Service has rated and certified a very small number of South Carolina P state quarters. Not many of these have been given the MS69 rating. An MS69 example of this kind was found in 2018 and was worth $8,000.
4. 2004 D Wisconsin State Quarter: Extra Leaf Low
Some types of coins were made during the Statehood Quarters Program. This means that any mistakes that were made during this program are very valuable.
One of the few kinds is the 2004 Wisconsin Extra Leaf Quarter. On both the Low Leaf and High Leaf types, there is an extra husk of corn on the left side. One is low and the other is a bit higher.
Normal Wisconsin state quarters don’t have this extra husk, so there is a mistake. It’s important to have this extra skin.
Without a question, the Wisconsin extra leaf quarters are the biggest mistake ever made when minting a state quarter.

5. 1999 P Connecticut State Quarter
One of the planchets used to test the Sacagawea dollar was the 1999 P Connecticut state quarter. It’s hard to get these coins because the Mint only made a few dozen of them. People think they’re fake.
A normal Connecticut state quarter and one that was struck on a Sacagawea planchet are different in a few ways.
There is a mistake on a Connecticut state quarter that is much bigger and heavy than on a regular 25-cent coin. Another difference is that the wrong quarter is gold while the right quarter is green.
Another thing to look at is the edge. A normal Connecticut quarter has rough lines along the edge that make it look like it was cut, but the mistake coin’s edge is smooth.
A PCGS report says that in 2018, an MS69 1999 P Connecticut state quarter sold for a huge $10,500.
6. 1999 P Delaware State Quarter
Delaware’s 1999 P state quarter was the first coin made as part of the Statehood Quarter Program. This is because Delaware was the first state to join the Union.
