The first Washington quarter was made in 1932, so there are a lot of them around.A few of them are worth a lot more than 25 cents!
Let us take a look at the 20 most expensive American flats. We’re going to find out what their fans like about them. We are going to find out how much they are worth.
1. 1966 Clad Washington Quarter, MS68+ – $21,000
Most of the time, old silver quarters are the most valuable Washington quarters. Now, though, coins that are made of copper and nickel can also be worth a lot. The amount is based on the type of coin and how well it is kept.
At the time this was written, a Philadelphia-made coin from 1966 was the most expensive known clad Washington quarter. With that date, amount, and mint mark, it was one of more than 821 million made. Only about 25% of those people are still living.
But because it’s so good, this one is really unique. One-fourth of the coins that are still in circulation are in “mint state.” These coins don’t have many signs of use because they were never used.
This is a range from 1 to 70 that shows how good or bad a coin is. 70 is the best shape possible. A clad 1966 Washington quarter that is up to MS62+ is only worth what it says on the coin. A third-party service that grades coins says the same coin is worth $8 at MS63.
If the coin is in better shape, it is more rare. It’s worth $70 at MS66+, $285 at MS67, $1,350 at MS67+, and $9,500 at MS68.
But there’s just one MS68+ coin. This one is the best of its kind, so collectors really want it. The most it was ever sold for was $21,000 in May 2023.
2. 1953 D Silver Washington Quarter, MS68 – $21,500
The 1953 D silver Washington quarter, which has an MS68 grade, is another great coin. This quarter was one of more than 56 million that were found in Denver in 2017. They are mostly in a state called “circulated,” though.
But even those are worth getting. The PCGS says a coin in the worst shape is worth around $6. Used coins that look almost brand new are worth around $9.
MS65 and above coins, on the other hand, are not seen very often. One of those starts at about $35. At MS67+, it’s worth more than $10,000, which is $4,250. The best one, which is ranked MS68, is worth a cool $21,500.
3. 1949 D Silver Washington Quarter, MS68 – $22,500
One of the 1940s coins that is harder to find is the D Washington quarter from 1949. In the beginning, Denver only made a little more than 10 million coins. This is a lot less than in other years.
If you use one of these coins, it will be worth $6 to $9. Find gems are hard to do, and the best ones are worth around $55. About $260 is how much an MS67 piece is worth. The PCGS rates 28 coins as MS67+ and says each one is worth $1,200.
The best gold coins are those that have the grade MS68. It’s worth around $22,500.
4. 1955 D Silver Washington Quarter, MS68 – $22,500
Also, not many Denver Washington quarters were made in 1955. A little over three million were hit. People who are survivors and are passed around are worth $6 to $9 each.
Each gem costs at least $40. People carefully saved a lot of them at the time because they thought their value would go up since not many were made. There are a lot of them today, though, which keeps the price low.
Since the PCGS has checked more than 400 coins, they are all MS66, which is worth $100. However, there is just one coin that is MS68 and is worth $22,500.
5. 1943 S Silver Washington Quarter, MS68 – $23,500
At one point, people thought that the 1943 S silver quarter was the second-best coin that the Mint made in the 1950s. Those rolls are where many of the gems you can find today were made.
Grade 1 coins are the worst kind of used coins and are worth more than traded coins. These are worth about $26. Coins rated 2 to 35 are worth $8 to $9.
Gems start at $75, and brand-new things begin at $28. PCGS says that a single coin is worth $23,500 and rates it as MS68. This is the best one.
6. 1963 D Silver Washington Quarter, MS68 – $24,000
The 1963 D Washington quarter was one of the last ones to be made of silver. There are used ones that are worth between $6 and $9.
The Philadelphia quarter from 1963 that doesn’t have a mint mark is worth a little more than the D from that year. It has an MS67 grade and is now worth $9,000 instead of $7,000.
The only one with an MS68 coin is the 1963 D. The PCGS says that one is worth $24,000.
7. 1945 S Silver Washington Quarter, MS68 – $25,000
Any other quarter from the 1940s is worth about the same as the San Francisco quarter from 1945, which is between $6 and $9. It costs about $35 for coins that look like gems. The well-known ones, on the other hand, will cost a lot more.
The PCGS has given MS67+ grades to 27 coins. These are all worth around $1,750 each. The three examples with the grade MS68 are the best and are each worth $25,000.
